Turning the Flywheel

Jim Collins wrote about this concept of turning the flywheel.  Each little decision we make in our life leading toward our goal starts turning the heavy flywheel.  Each decision adds a little momentum.  The wheel is so heavy that can’t be sped up all at once but once it is going the momentum will help keep it moving.  That is the secret behind overnight success.  Start turning the wheel and years later you’re an overnight success.

I have been turning the photography flywheel for a couple years now.  Some momentum is really starting to build.

Some of the things that I have been doing to turn that flywheel…

  • Using Michael Hyatt’s life plan ebook.  You can get that book by going to his blog.  The majority of people let life happen to them and have no plan.  I heard someone say “Adults devise a plan and follow it, children do what feels good.
  • The Entreleadership podcast is something that is fairly new by the Dave Ramsey team.  Each one has some great nuggets of wisdom. Podcast #11 with Jim Collins reminded me of the flywheel concept I mentioned above.
  • I recently picked up the book “Think and Grow Rich” for $0.95.  What a deal.  The book seems to be the original secret.  I picked it up on the recommendation of Zach and Jody, some Nashville photographers with the right idea!  Here is one of the quotes. “Success comes to those who become success conscious.  Failure comes to those who indifferently allow themselves to become failure conscious.”

I mentioned before that the wheel is turning and those are some of the things that I am doing to keep the speed increasing.

“Where you will be in five years depends on the books you read and the people you meet.” – Dave Ramsey

Here is the little guy already learning to turn that wheel!  If you liked this post click over to my other blog where I talk more about my photography journey and life as a husband, father, and photographer.
